Creating a memorial to honor our Veterans

About the Memorial

The Boone County Freedom Rock project was started in 2014 by Mysty Stumbo to honor her son, Sgt. Daniel Sesker, who died in Iraq in 2006.

By summer 2015, enough funds were raised from various organizations and individuals to paint a Freedom Rock in Boone County.

The landscaping around the memorial includes 10 flags; one for each branch of service, an Iowa flag, and an American flag. Engraved pavers honoring veterans surround the Freedom Rock. Pavers may still be purchased and added to the memorial to honor a veteran by clicking here.
